'American Burger Bar' (New York Series No.27) by Angela Wakefield

Angela Wakefield released 3 new paintings last week, and on the day of their release all three were snapped up! Again, to all the collectors who made enquiries over the last week, may I sincerely apologise. Work of this quality does not stay in the gallery long, it has to be said!

Angela was particularly proud of the way in which these new paintings came together for her; she was confident that the direction in which she was taking her work was both an evolution and a diversification of what she has already achieved with the New York Series thus far.

The Hopper-esque 'American Burger Bar' (New York Series No.27 shown above) was particularly strong, illustrating Angela's increasing ability to apply her unique painting technique to capturing the full range of subjects we find in our urban environment. Cars, people, light, trees, buildings and illuminated signage are brought to life by her impressionistic painterly style.

New York Series No.28 is a colourful snapshot of contemporary New York life with the Empire State Building in the distance, with No.29 in the series seeing Angela capture the red glow of a Manhattan sunset so effortlessly. (see below)

There is, as art critic Ian Welland describes it, an instinctive quality to her work; Ian wrote in the Art of England that "Angela Wakefield is the most instinctive artist of our age". This is very high praise indeed, and hopefully shows how the discerning eyes of collectors across the UK, Europe & USA are now seeing her work.

Being described in such complimentary terms by industry professionals in international publications, and with inclusion in a forthcoming hollywood movie, Angela Wakefield's paintings could become as iconic and significant as the imagery they are depicting.

Angie Goes to Hollywood!

Angela Wakefield has now sold the first 23 of her 'New York Series' to collectors across the UK, Europe and USA. Exciting times for Angela, whose Art of England front cover in September 2011 is set to appear in a new Hollywood movie!...Her painting of New York (No.19 in the Series) was selected by Fox Searchlight Ltd to be used in the new Danny Boyle film 'TRANCE'.

Danny Boyle won an Academy Award for 'Slumdog Millionaire' in 2008, and 'TRANCE', a high-energy psychological thriller set in contemporary London starring James McAvoy, is to be released in March 2013. It has also been announced that Danny Boyle will be the artistic director for the 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony, so Angela will be in good company!

A large number of our collectors narrowly missed out on acquiring No.23 in the Series (42nd Street) recently featured in our group exhibition. All paintings are sold on a first come first serve basis and can be reserved by a deposit. However, there will be another opportunity to acquire one of Angela's originals as she is on the brink of releasing 3 further paintings of New York, details of which will be uploaded to her page on the Ascot Studios website very soon.

Rebecca Ann Wilmer - Solo Exhibition

You are invited to attend an exclusive solo exhibition from Rebecca Ann Wilmer at our Ribchester gallery. The exhibition launch will be on Saturday, November 5th 2011, between 11am and 5pm, and will continue until the end of November.

This body of work is the crystallisation of a full year of painting and features a collectible series of original paintings based on the Ribble Valley which can be seen here

Rebecca works with acrylic on canvas, but also uses texture gels to give her work texture and an impasto effect. This body of work is one of the most concerted efforts of any painter to try and capture the unique beauty and character of Lancashire's finest and most unspoilt landscape. Original Landscape Paintings for 2010

Our summer exhibition for 2010 sees the introduction of three new artists – Julie Dumbarton, M J Forster & Augustus Francis. We are also featuring original paintings from Rebecca Ann Wilmer and Jonny Rotherham.

The spring exhibition was an enormous success with our best-selling artists doing very well indeed. Angela Wakefield was on the front cover of Art of England with a range of urban landscapes of Edinburgh, Manchester, Salford, York & London. The response to her new paintings was overwhelming and her career just goes from strength to strength.

James Naughton also did very well with a stunning new selection of his unique landscape paintings and we will see more from him later in the year and in 2011.

James Naughton & Margaret Francis

The May/June Exhibition @ Ascot Studios sees us welcome two artists new to the gallery - James Naughton, one of the leading landscape painters in the UK, and Margaret Francis, who has exhibited widely in Los Angeles, New York & in Japan.

The exhibition preview on May the 1st was a great success and there was a real buzz in the gallery. The team from 'Live Ribble Valley' Magazine were in attendance with fancy cameras and notepads, both artists were there to talk more about their work, the red wine & elderflower champagne flowed, and I got chance to catch up with a number of our collectors as well as introducing new people to our contemporary art gallery.

In terms of sales, many originals were secured before the gallery doors even opened. Within the first week, we had sold half of the James Naughton originals we had on display! Quality does speak for itself, and the positive response we have witnessed for both artists has been testament to their skill and vision.

The current exhibition runs until June 13th, and the originals on display can be viewed here.

Also, I would like to thank the Ascot Studios team - Marcus, Geoff, Sarah & Edwina - for making the evening run so smoothly.
